Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra

LogoThe City of Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra has steadily grown in reputation and stature over the years both nationally and internationally and in July 2012 celebrated its 50th anniversary.

They have undertaken many concert tours to countries as diverse as Austria, Poland, Russia, Czech Republic, Germany, the former Yugoslavia and California.

To extend the musical experience of its members, the orchestra commissions new works and engages guest soloists as funds allow. Over the years the orchestra has been coached by players from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to its concerts in Coventry, the orchestra from time to time performs in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, The Arts Centre, University of Warwick, The Parish Church of All Saints, Royal Leamington Spa and the Guy Nelson Hall, Warwick.

Brian Chappell is in his 29th season as conductor/director of the orchestra. A team of players/teachers provide specialist input at rehearsals.

The orchestra is managed by a committee of parents and former members who promote the orchestra, support rehearsals and concerts and raise funds.

The orchestra is a registered charity and is in partnership with the Performing Arts Service. PAS is a non-profit organisation, managed under Services for Schools as part of the Children, Learning and Young People’s Directorate of Coventry City Council.

The orchestra is always pleased to welcome new members for a weekly playing experience. Entry to the Orchestra is by audition. String players will be expected to have reached grade VI standard (although a promising grade V might also be considered). Percussion should be of a grade VI standard, woodwind and brass grade VII.

Rehearsals are held every Friday night in term time from:
7.00-9.45pm at Blue Coat School, Terry Road, Coventry

Termly fee: £46.75
