AC Academy Coventry after-school choirs
Armonico Consort runs two AC Academy afterschool choirs in Coventry. The choirs are un-auditioned and aimed at young people in KS2 and KS3 between the ages of 7 and 16.
The children learn a wide range of music from across all genres and have great fun in performing to audiences of family, friends and Armonico Consort’s supporters in venues all around the UK.
In the last two years AC Academy Coventry choirs have performed with Britain’s Got Talent finalists Richard & Adam at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, sung on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour Christmas special, and joined Strictly Come Dancing stars Kevin and Karen Clifton at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford and London’s world-famous Royal Albert Hall.

Armonico Consort, working in partnership with music hubs across the country, has developed a reputation for creating thriving AC Academy in-school choirs where there has previously been little or no music.
The aim of the five week workshop series is to create or develop an existing choir, training a teacher in successful choir leadership and creating a legacy at the school of a skilfully trained choir and teacher to continue long after the end of the programme. This programme is cross-curricular and can replace music sessions in place on the National Curriculum.
The schools are informed in detail about the project, offered guidance on how to select the right teacher and how each session will plan out, and also offered a follow-up mentoring workshop a few weeks after the programme has finished.
Armonico Consort provides regular high quality performance opportunities in prestigious venues across the UK, including The Royal Albert Hall, Warwick Arts Centre, Birmingham Symphony Hall and several more local Coventry venues.
In June this year, 400 children from AC Academy after-school and in-school choirs joined AC Academies from across the UK in a gala concert where a total of 2000 children raised the roof at London’s Royal Albert Hall. In the spring of 2017, singers from AC Academy Coventry East and West will perform in Carmina Burana at the Warwick Arts Centre, backed by professional musicians from Armonico Consort.
Musical in a Day
Musical in a Day is a performance opportunity for KS3 young people, open to all students in years 7 to 11. During the day, the young performers will learn from professional coaches, sing (as well as dance and act, if they feel up to it) extracts from a West-End musical, and then perform in front of families and friends at the end of the day. There will be a ‘Musical in a Day’ for secondary school students in Coventry every term.
